Getting Back to Business

Phew … I almost didn’t think I was going to get this blog written because like many of us, I was trying to squeeze the last ounce of fun out of my summer. You see, this summer I decided I needed and deserved a break. I took roughly a month or so off with the hope of rejuvenating myself so that I could feel refreshed and energized to get back to business in 2009.

Yes, I said 2009. I spent two weeks driving across the country to horseback ride and white water raft in Montana, another few days learning to sail a 69-foot boat and I spent a lot of time with friends.

Guess what? It worked. I feel great.

Some of you may ask how did he take so much time off? Let me explain, I have a business plan! Do you? Do you know what one is?

My yearly business plan incorporates a list of things that I need to do to grow my business as well as take time for me. Did you realize that you are a CEO, your own CFO, and marketing and advertising department?

Every business needs a plan to function properly and now is the best time to start planning for

2009. The spring market will be here before you know it! Even a written agenda of goals on a napkin could be considered a plan.

A basic plan should include the following: a budget, goals and objectives, and one of the things I consider most important, time for YOU!

There are many other details that can go into a business design but I want to pose this question to everyone: What do you need in your plan?

By talking about our business strategies we can all help each other grow in our respective markets and learn something new that we may have missed. There are some advertising ideas, marketing tips, and budget items that we never think about — for example, paperclip usage.

I want to hear from you, so be sure to comment on the message board so we can all learn together!
