Hurricane season is here... and so are high deductibles

Seems like just yesterday hurricane season was here and we’re still dealing with the after effects of 2005. There's no stopping nature, and property managers in New Orleans, Florida, and other affected areas will likely face a tough financial road ahead. While managers of small properties are having an easier go with deductibles – passing the costs on to tenants – commercial property managers may not have that option. To make matters worse, property managers are having a hard time finding insurance coverage.

More Offices Are Ditching the Dilbert Cubicle Environment for Open Spaces

Advances in wireless and mobile technology have prompted an upsurge in open space office layouts. Although they are nothing new, today's open space offices are designed with modular furniture as well as lower-paneled workstations and common rooms, instead of corridors and private offices. One compelling building advance is a raised floor system which houses all the data, phone and electrical cabling which, in the past, has been stored in ceiling trays. "Building owners and managers must realize advanced electronic and telecommunication technology presumes the presence of physical building requirements to support them," industry experts say.
