Fair Housing Depends on Fair Financing

In her latest podcast, 2007 NAR President Pat Vredevoogd Combs encourages REALTORS® to celebrate Fair Housing Month by helping prospective, current and past clients secure fair, affordable financing that will enable them to keep their homes as long as they choose.

As Pat explains, flexible mortgage products have played an important role in enabling many underserved families to achieve the dream of homeownership. Yet, the recent rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies suggests that many consumers could lose their homes, due to rising interest rates and higher tax payments.

REALTORS® are part of the solution. NAR provides REALTORS® with resources to help explain the benefits and risks of various loans and the importance of using a responsible lender and to help consumers get the counseling the need to make their mortgage payments on time. In addition, NAR is working with Congress and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to make the FHA program a more viable alternative to the subprime market.
