Ensuring Equality in Our Businesses and in Our Associations

As America celebrates Black History Month, 2007 NAR President Pat Vredevoogd Combs encourages REALTORS® to take time to reflect on where we stand on equality in our businesses, in our association, and in the housing market – and to ask what we can do to ensure that everyone we represent has an equal opportunity to participate.

NAR’s new Diversity Toolkit is a great place to start. The toolkit is your guide to all of NAR’s diversity initiatives, including our Diversity Initiative Grants and the At Home With Diversity course. This year, the toolkit includes a new section to help REALTORS® encourage and foster diversity in leadership at all levels of our organization.

In addition to the Diversity Toolkit, NAR continues our strong partnership with six other professional real estate associations, as co-sponsors of the HOPE Awards. The HOPE Awards help draw national attention to the need to expand homeownership for everyone. This May, we will hold the fourth HOPE Awards Gala in Washington, D.C., during NAR’s Midyear Meetings.
