Vote 2008: A Look Back...and Forward

Palin.jpgSeems like just yesterday we were contemplating the notion of the first woman president... and a Mormon in the White House. Now, we find ourselves anxiously awaiting the outcome of the November elections knowing that more "firsts" for the White House are at stake. But, what's really behind each of these candidates? Find out in the Virtual Library eBooks Collection spotlight on Vote 2008.

Titles of interest include (in order of eBook release date so as not to demonstrate favoritism) Joe Biden's Promises to Keep, Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down, John McCain's Worth Fighting For, and Barak Obama's Audacity of Hope. Reflecting on candidates past? Check out Her Way, A Mormon in the White House, or The Prince of the City. Interested in delving deep into the voting process? The cassette is dead! Long live the Audiobook!

080408.jpgLast week, the New York Times reported that the lowly cassette tape, long spurned by the music industry, was meeting the same fate in audio books. The book publisher Hachette went so far as to throw a funeral, saying it had released its last book in cassette form in June. While other publishers continue to release titles on cassettes (they're still popular with libraries and truckers), it's a shrinking market segment.

But after your moment of silence, consider that cassettes weren't ever all that great. They melt in the summer, snap in the winter, get jammed in the player, and that tape is like silly string in a child's hands. Here at NAR, we deliver hundreds of audio titles in either Windows Media format or now MP3 (which means they're iPod compatible, yay!). They're good for the environment and you don't have to trudge to B. Dalton's. Check out our collection today!
